After the teen and tween accessories retailer entered into an agreement to be bought by a holding company, it stopped liquidation sales at some stores.
HOUSTON — Just weeks after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, Claire’s has updated its list of U.S. stores that will close, and only three are in the Houston area.
The teen and tween accessories retailer will close a total of 291 stores, but 830 others have been moved to the non-closing list and liquidation sales will be paused.
Fans of Claire’s in the Houston area will be happy to know that the majority of stores here will now remain open.
Claire’s filed the for bankruptcy on August 6.
On Monday, August 25, it filed an updated plan after agreeing to be acquired by Ames Watson, a private holding company, Claire’s said in a press release.
Claire’s closing in Houston
- Claire’s at Brookhollow Marketplace, 4526 Dacoma St., Houston
- Claire’s at River Oaks Plaza, 1556 W. Gray St., Houston
- Claire’s at Copperwood Village Shopping, 6581 Highway 6, Houston
- Icing at Baybrook Mall, which is owned by Claire’s, will also close.

Court documents showed the company owed its four largest creditors more than $14.7 million.
The sale is subject to approval by the Courts in the U.S. and Canada, and other customary closing conditions.
