HIGHLANDS, Texas — A 17-year-old girl has been arrested in connection with her 8-year-old brother’s death months after her boyfriend was arrested for the same crime, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
Kara Walker, 17, and her boyfriend, 18-year-old Nolan Stallings, both face a charge of injury to a child, a felony.
Walker was arrested on Wednesday, August 27, while Stallings was arrested back in March.
Court documents from March claim the boy was “abused and tortured over several days.” On Thursday, the sheriff said investigators believe the abuse happened at a home in the Highlands area on Greendell Street.
The boy was brought to a Baytown hospital on February 10, where investigators said he was in critical condition and had several injuries to his body. The child died shortly after being brought to the hospital.
Previously, investigators with the sheriff’s office told KHOU 11 that Stallings had told them the boy “fell down a lot.”
According to Gonzalez, the child’s injuries were consistent with abuse and an investigation began.
Charges were filed against Stallings on March 3.
We’re working to learn what led to Walker being charged in the case.
