Housto judge sets $200,000 bonds for accused child sex predator

Christopher Ballard, 40, was arrested by detectives with Constable Mark Herman’s Special Victims Unit.

HOUSTON — A Harris County judge set bonds for an accused child sex predator at $200,000 late Tuesday.

Christopher Ballard, 40, is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child and continuous sexual assault of a child.

The father of four was arrested by detectives with Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman’s Special Victims Unit.

According to court documents, Ballard physically and sexually abused the 6-year-old daughter of an acquaintance.

A second victim told investigators that he physically abused her between the ages of 5 and 11. It escalated to sexual abuse when she turned 11 and lasted until she was 13, court docs say.

“The Harris County Precinct Four Constable’s Office applies every resource to protect the most vulnerable members of our community from predatory offenders. Protecting our children is not just our duty, it is our promise to this community,” Constable Herman said on Tuesday after Ballard’s arrest.

During his first court appearance, a court-appointed attorney asked for a $10,000 bond for each charge. Instead, the judge set Ballard’s bond at a total of $200,000. The judge also granted protective orders on behalf of the accusers and told Ballard to stay away from them.

He remains in the Harris County Jail.
