The victim was shot twice on West Bellfort, near South Gessner, on Tuesday evening. He later died at the hospital, METRO said.
HOUSTON — Houston and METRO police are still searching for the gunman who opened fire on a man near a bus stop in southwest Houston on Tuesday night.
The victim was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital, but he didn’t survive, according to METRO.
The shooting happened just before 7 p.m. on West Bellfort, east of Gessner. The masked gunman walked up to the victim and there was an altercation before he was shot twice, according to HPD.
“The suspect ran to the east and south, jumped over the fence to this apartment complex, and fled on foot,” HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said at the scene.
Police searched the area, along with an HPD helicopter, but they couldn’t find the gunman. The manhunt continued on Wednesday.
Little information has been released about the suspect, other than that he wore a mask and a white t-shirt. Crowson said they’re hoping a camera on the bus will provide a better description.
We don’t know the possible motive or if the shooting was random.
METRO said they can’t confirm whether the victim was a METRO customer, only that he was in the area where the incident occurred.
“The safety of our operators, customers, and surrounding community remains our top priority,” METRO police said in a statement on Tuesday.
