Forbes top colleges list: Texas well represented

This Houston university was ranked among the best in the nation.

HOUSTON — Texas is well represented on Forbes’ latest list of the top 500 colleges in America.

A total of 23 Texas colleges and universities made the list, and the top-ranked school in the state calls Houston home. Rice University ranks 12th in the nation, according to the Forbes list.

Forbes said the list was determined by a few factors, including how many students got high-paying jobs out college, how much student debt students graduated with, and how often students graduated on time.

  • Rice University – 12th overall
  • University of Texas, Austin – 46th overall
  • Texas A&M University, College Station – 61st overall
  • Trinity University (TX) – 82nd overall
  • Southern Methodist University – 103rd overall
  • University of Houston – 107th overall
  • Texas Christian University – 120th overall
  • University of Texas, Dallas – 141st overall
  • Texas Tech University – 161st overall
  • Baylor University – 188th overall
  • University of North Texas – 238th overall
  • University of Texas, Arlington – 246th overall
  • St. Edwards University – 293rd overall
  • University of Texas at San Antonio – 300th overall
  • Southwestern University – 304th overall
  • University of Houston, Clear Lake – 342nd overall
  • University of St. Thomas (TX) – 354th overall
  • University of Texas, El Paso – 359th overall
  • Texas State University – 408th overall
  • Austin College – 419th overall
  • University of Dallas – 422nd overall
  • Abilene Christian University – 437th overall
