Deadly wreck shuts down Southwest Freeway northbound at Sweetwater

According to Sugar Land police, the wreck is expected to take hours to clear.

HOUSTON — A deadly wreck has part of the Southwest Freeway through Fort Bend County shut down. It’s a closure that police say is expected to last for hours.

It happened along the northbound lanes near Sweetwater Boulevard. All northbound lanes between Sweetwater and Highway 6 are shut down for the investigation. The Sugar Land Police Department posted to Facebook a little after 9 p.m. that they expect the closure to last for at least five hours.

Drivers will be forced off the freeway while the lanes are closed.  Your best bet is to avoid the area.

At this point, we don’t know how the wreck happened. We have been told one other person was injured and taken to a hospital.

We’ll follow this breaking story and post any updates as we get them.
