Sheldon man confessed to robbery spree, Harris County Sheriff’s Office says

When Nico Betancort, 21, was arrested Thursday night, he confessed to robbing a Denny’s, Boost Mobile and 7-Eleven, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

SHELDON, Texas — A Sheldon man went to jail Thursday night after a robbery spree in Sheldon and Channelview, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Nico Betancourt, 21, was charged with three counts of aggravated robbery after he confessed to all three cases, HCSO said.

The suspect’s first stop was a Denny’s on the Crosby Freeway near Sheldon Road in Sheldon. An employee was robbed at gunpoint by a man wearing a camouflage face covering. The gunman got away with about $200 in cash.

Later Thursday, Harris County Sheriff’s deputies responded to another armed robbery at a Boost Mobile on Sheldon Road near the East Freeway in Channelview. One victim was forced at gunpoint to kneel and hand over his wallet, credit cards, cash and cell phone. Another victim was robbed of approximately $250 in cash. They told investigators the suspect was wearing a black hoodie with Marilyn Monroe on the front.

Last night, a gunman matching the same description tried to rob a 7-Eleven on Sheldon Road. The employee was able to get away and the robber left empty-handed.

Deputies later located a black 2010 Chrysler 200 matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle. During a traffic stop, they recovered a Glock handgun, narcotics, credit cards belonging to a victim and clothing consistent with the suspect’s description.

Betancourt was arrested on unrelated charges. When he was interviewed by detectives investigating the robberies, Betancourt confessed to all three cases, according to HCSO.

Nico remains jailed on a $250,000 bond.
