AUSTIN (KXAN) — Mexican low-cost airline Viva will launch a new route between Austin and Mexico City in November.
Nonstop service between AUS and Mexico City’s new Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU) will begin Nov. 20. Flights will operate three days a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, using Airbus A320 aircraft.
Flights are set to depart Austin at 12:35 p.m. and arrive in Mexico City at 2:55 p.m. Return flights will leave NLU at 9:15 a.m. and arrive in AUS at 11:25 a.m.
Mexico City is Viva’s second nonstop destination from Austin. Service to Monterey began in March 2024. Since then, the airline has flown more than 50,000 passengers to and from Austin.
“We are thrilled to continue our expansion into Central Texas. This is a great opportunity to make tourism and trade easier,” Viva CEO Juan Carlos Zuazua said. “When arriving in Mexico City, travelers from AUS will also be able to enjoy direct flights to over 40 destinations, including Mexico’s biggest cities and tourist destinations. We encourage you to take advantage of our low fares, modern fleet and unmatched service to explore and get to know our country.”
Rival Aeromexico currently flies between Austin and Mexico City, but uses Benito Juárez International Airport (MEX) rather than NLU.
