Gas leak forces closure on Highway 36 in Rosenberg

A gas leak shut down Highway 36 in Rosenberg, blocking key access at the I-69 intersection.

ROSENBERG, Texas — A large gas leak at the intersection of Highway 36 and Interstate 69 prompted authorities to close a major section of Highway 36 in Rosenberg on Wednesday, according to city officials. Traffic on the Southwest Freeway was not affected.

The City of Rosenberg announced the road closure, which affects Highway 36, also known as 1st Street in that area, from I-69 to Callender Street. Officials told drivers to avoid the area while crews worked.

The closure blocked a driveway to the McDonald’s on the northeast corner of that intersection.

Air 11 showed crews digging in the landscaping between the sidewalk and the McDonald’s parking lot.

It wasn’t clear how the leak was detected.

No more details about the cause of the gas leak, injuries, or how long the disruption was expected to last have been released at this time. The intersection of Highway 36 and I-69 serves as a key intersection in the area.

Drivers were encouraged to seek alternate routes while emergency responders worked at the site.
