HOUSTON — The Houston area’s first community of 3D-printed homes broke ground last week as one of two affordable home communities in the works near William P. Hobby Airport.
HiveAsmbld and Cole Klein Builders are building Zuri Gardens on 13 acres between Madden Lane and Carson Road, the Houston Business Journal reports.
The community will include 80 energy-efficient homes averaging 1,360 square feet and starting in the mid- to high $200,000s.
The first home built using HiveAsmbld’s proprietary 3D-printing technology and materials is slated to rise in October. Completion of the development is expected in fall 2026.
Houston-based HiveAsmbld, previously known as Hive3D, constructs the first floors using a proprietary low-carbon, lightweight concrete product and a robotic arm that squeezes the cement into lines. The materials add more strength to the walls than an average home but also have the extra benefit of being cost-effective, CEO Timothy Lankau told the Houston Business Journal.
