Astros ballpark ranks No. 5 overall for best hot dogs, survey says

Houston Astros fans chow down on an average of 9,360 hot dogs during each home game, according to Action Network.

HOUSTON — While the Houston Astros are locked in a battle with the Seattle Mariners for first place in the American League West division, Daikin Park is scoring points for its hot dogs.

A new data-driven study from The Action Network ranked all 30 Major League Baseball teams based on their overall hot dog experience. They broke it down into four categories.

  • Affordability: The cost of a stadium hot dog, adjusted for the cost-of-living index for each city.
  • Consumption: An estimate of how many hot dogs are eaten at each home game, based on attendance and league-wide averages from the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council.
  • Popularity: The percentage of online mentions, positive or negative, of hot dogs at each ballpark.
  • Satisfaction: A sentiment analysis of all hot dog-related comments from Reddit and Google Maps. The score was calculated by subtracting the percentage of negative mentions from positive ones to capture overall fan satisfaction.

Daikin Park’s dogs landed at No. 5 overall. Astros fans chow down on an average of 9,360 hot dogs at each home game, according to the survey. Fans are shelling out more than six bucks for each hot dog, which landed them at No. 13 for affordability. Every Tuesday is Dollar Dog Night.
