A large apartment fire in Kingwood displaced residents as firefighters battled overnight to control the flames.
HOUSTON — A large apartment fire in Kingwood forced residents from their homes overnight as firefighters worked through the early morning hours to bring the flames under control.
The Houston Fire Department says the call came in just before 3 a.m. Wednesday, and crews were on the scene within five minutes. When firefighters arrived, the roof on one L-shaped section of the building later collapsed. By sunrise, heavy flames were out, but crews continued battling stubborn hotspots, with smoke still visible.
“Hotspots are very difficult,” a fire official explained, noting that if they aren’t completely extinguished, they can cause the fire to reignite.
Several units sustained significant damage, though investigators have not yet determined the cause. Residents stood outside watching as firefighters worked to keep the blaze from spreading to other buildings.
“Thankfully, no one has been injured, firefighters or residents,” officials said. Crews planned a second search of the building to confirm everyone made it out safely.
The investigation is ongoing, and firefighters are expected to remain at the scene for much of the day.
