Ex-deputy charged with manslaughter in Houston crash nearly a year later

Rigo Vivar was taken into custody and appeared before a judge Tuesday night.

The charges stem from an August 24, 2024, crash on Canal Street, where Vivar was allegedly speeding in the wrong lane on his way to work. Investigators said his vehicle slammed into another, killing 28-year-old Ricky Resendez.

Following the wreck, Vivar was fired from the Harris County Precinct 6 Constable’s Office.

His bond has been set at $100,000.

“We’re not giving up on this,” Brenda Resendez previously told KHOU 11 News. “This is not going to fly under the radar for us; this was my brother.”
