Dino exhibits, keeper talks, and a cause that stole the show at Houston Zoo

The Houston Zoo hosted 900 participants from the 2025 Genuine Cup for a day of discovery and celebration.

HOUSTON — The Houston Zoo welcomed 900 athletes, coaches and families from the 2025 Genuine Cup for a day of connection, discovery and celebration.

The Genuine Cup is an international soccer tournament designed for neurodiverse individuals with developmental differences. It was held in Houston from July 27 to Aug. 2.

All 12 participating teams were invited to enjoy special access to the Zoo, offering guests an opportunity to explore its exhibits and engage in animal-centered programming.

Athletes got to explore the Zoo’s popular Jurassic Giants exhibit, featuring life-size dinosaurs and interactive dig sites. They also attended several Meet the Keeper Talks, sponsored by CenterPoint Energy Foundation. Those talks highlighted elephants, goats and sea lions throughout the afternoon. Zoo Crew teens also led interactive conversations, while the athletes got to have up-close encounters with ambassador animals.

The special event was a part of the Zoo’s mission to connect communities with animals and inspire action to save wildlife, while fostering a space where individuals of all abilities feel welcomed, supported and included. It is a part of the Zoo’s effort to become a “Zoo for All.”

The Houston Zoo is a Certified Autism Center, designated by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). The designation reinforces the Zoo’s long-standing focus on accessibility and inclusive engagement.

Established in 1922, the Houston Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and remains a trusted conservation nonprofit and community destination for learning, recreation and inspiration.
