Police investigating suspicious death at northeast Houston apartment

Houston police investigate a suspicious death in a northeast apartment where a woman’s body was found after neighbors reported a foul odor.

HOUSTON — Houston police are investigating a suspicious death at a northeast Houston apartment complex after a woman was found dead inside her unit Monday evening.

It happened at a complex on Lorraine Street near the Eastex Freeway.

HPD Lieutenant Larry Crowson said neighbors reported a foul odor and said they hadn’t seen the woman in several days.

When officers and neighbors entered the apartment, they discovered the woman’s body inside.

“At this point, it looks like the death is suspicious. We believe it is not due to natural causes,” said Lt. Crowson. “Our homicide investigators are on the scene and will be conducting a follow-up investigation.”

The woman’s identity has not yet been released. Investigators said the exact cause of death is still unknown and will be determined by the medical examiner following an autopsy.

Crowson said a dog was found inside the apartment, which has since been turned over to animal control.

This is a developing story. We’ll add more details as we learn them.
