A former Indiana corrections officer is facing multiple sex crime charges in Houston, and authorities believe dozens more victims may be unidentified.
HOUSTON — A former Indiana corrections officer accused of being a serial rapist is expected to appear in a Harris County courtroom Thursday morning, as investigators continue to uncover a disturbing pattern of alleged sexual assaults spanning multiple states.
Carl Earl Redfield Jr., 47, was arrested on July 24 while working at a car dealership in west Harris County, where he was employed at the time. The case began last month when a woman reported being violently assaulted at Redfield’s Cypress-area apartment. That initial report led to the discovery of at least one more alleged victim, and investigators now believe dozens more women may have been targeted.
More charges, more victims?
Redfield is currently charged with:
- Three counts of aggravated sexual assault
- One count of sexual assault
- One count of aggravated assault of a family member
He has a criminal history that includes a domestic violence conviction in Harris County and a narcotics trafficking conviction in Indiana, where he previously worked as a corrections officer.
According to officials, Redfield used dating apps, frequented bars, and falsely posed as an attorney to meet and manipulate women. Authorities say he often video recorded his assaults and used intimidation tactics to silence his victims.
“Based on the evidence gathered so far, we have reason to believe Redfield has sexually assaulted many more women, often times video recording his brutal attacks and attempting to intimidate his victims to keep them from coming forward,” said Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
In a direct plea to the public, Gonzalez urged victims to step forward:
“Don’t fall for their lies. If you were harmed by Carl Redfield Jr.’s unspeakable acts, we will stand with you to keep you safe and get you the justice you deserve. You are not alone.”

Expanding investigation
Detectives say they have recovered videos, digital messages, and witness statements tied to Redfield. The investigation has already led to the execution of 22 search warrants, including one for his apartment and another to obtain his DNA.
Authorities say the case is expanding rapidly. Just minutes after the public press conference announcing his arrest, a woman called the sheriff’s office — potentially identifying herself as another victim.
“If you’re out there and have experienced something similar, please know our priority is your safety, your dignity, and your healing,” said Detective Nicholas Cooke. “You will be treated with compassion, respect, and without judgment.”
Community support and resources
“This is about justice, safety, and giving a voice to the survivors,” said Angela Welton, Chief of the DA’s Special Victims Bureau. “We will pursue every lead to ensure this individual is held fully accountable.”
Redfield remains jailed on more than $2.5 million bond. His arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday in Harris County.
