DENTON, Texas — A former North Texas pastor has been indicted on multiple child pornography charges, according to court records.
Jim Mustain, 64, was formally indicted last Tuesday in Denton County on four counts of possession of child pornography, a first-degree felony. He remains in custody with a bond set at $500,000.
Mustain was first arrested on April 25 in Ashe County, North Carolina, following warrants issued by the Lewisville Police Department. He was extradited to Texas and booked into the Denton County Jail on May 14.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Mustain’s wife at the time reported in 2023 that he had inappropriate photos of children, mostly girls, aged 6-10, on his iPad. The report was closed at that time until another person reported Mustain sending inappropriate images of children in November of 2024, according to the affidavit.
He’s charged with four counts of possession or promotion of lewd visual material depicting a child, and one count of possession of child pornography. The alleged offenses occurred in February, records show.
Mustain previously served as a community pastor at Preston Trail Community Church in Frisco, where he worked from 2019 until 2023.
The church said in a June statement on its website that it became aware of impending charges against Mustain on April 24, hired a third-party law firm to investigate, and that there’s “no indication that any children connected to Preston Trail were involved or harmed.”
Lewisville ISD previously said in a statement that they notified parents of Mustain’s arrest and confirmed he had volunteered with student groups for Durham Middle School and Creekside Elementary last school year. The district said it reached out to families connected to those programs.
The district also added that Mustain isn’t allowed on any district facility, and there’s no indication that any Lewisville ISD students were impacted.
Mustain’s first hearing is set for Aug. 6.
