Austin Police names pedestrian hit, killed in July 18 collision

AUSTIN (KXAN) — An early morning crash on July 18 killed a pedestrian who was walking in the 8000 block of the northbound I-35 Service Road, according to an Austin Police press release Monday.

The crash occurred around 3:00 a.m.

APD identified the pedestrian as 50-year-old Nakia L. Dawson. First responders took her from the scene to a local hospital. She died on July 22 at 2:58 p.m., APD said.

“The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation,” APD’s release says.

The investigation into Dawson’s death is ongoing, according to the release. It was Austin’s 52nd fatal crash of 2025 — 56 fatalities have already occurred this year, up from 46 at the same time in 2024.
