AUSTIN (KXAN) — The U.S. General Services Administration, or GSA, announced Monday that it sold a federally owned, vacant office building in Austin, which was previously used by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).
The building is located in the Stillhouse Canyon Office Park in northwest Austin.
According to the GSA’s press release, it was sold for $3.49 million. The GSA also said it received 25 bids during the sale process. The release did not mention who purchased the property, however.
Public Buildings Service Commissioner Michael Peters said in the release that the sale shows the agency’s “commitment to reducing the federal footprint and delivering value for the American taxpayer.”
“We are strategically divesting underperforming assets, saving in maintenance costs, and ensuring that federal resources are utilized efficiently,” Peters said.
The release claims that the sale will save around $280,000 in annual maintenance costs from the federal government’s $6.8 trillion budget.
In a March press release announcing that bids were open, the GSA described the building as having around 18,135 square feet of interior space.
While the GSA briefly marked several Austin facilities for potential sale in March, no Austin buildings were listed on the GSA’s list of “assets identified for accelerated disposition.”
On July 22, a federal judge ruled against the Trump Administration after it fired two NCUA board members in April, ordering their reinstatement.
