HOUSTON — Houston has the seventh-worst traffic among the 50 largest U.S. states — jumping up four spots from No. 11 last year, according to a new ranking.
To create the ranking, ConsumerAffairs analyzed the average commute times, daily hours of congestion and fatal car crash rates of the nation’s 50 most populated cities.
Houston’s average commute time held steady at 29.8 minutes, but its average weekday congestion time of five hours and 48 minutes grew by 27% from last year, according to ConsumerAffairs. The Bayou City also has 10.17 fatal car crashes per 100,000 people. While Houston is No. 9 for longest commute time and No. 6 in weekday congestion, it didn’t even crack the top 20 in terms of fatal car crash rates.
