Kyle police arrest man wanted on 5 warrants, issue 13 new charges

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Kyle Police Department, or KPD, said it arrested a Manor man Sunday after officers pulled over a “van driving erratically” in the early morning, according to a Monday press release.

Kyle police officers reported they saw the van almost cause a collision around 1:30 a.m. Austin Police had received a report that the van was stolen at gunpoint, the release said.

“When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to comply, resisted arrest, and assaulted officers during the encounter. He was ultimately taken into custody,” the release said.

The press release names the suspect as Paul Anthony Candanoza, 31, of Manor. He did not have an attorney listed Monday morning, according to Hays County court records.

Candanoza had five active arrest warrants at the time of his arrest, Kyle Police said. Those included a Caldwell County robbery case, a Travis County assault causing bodily injury case and three others from Travis County for assault of a family/household member.

According to the release, officers charged Candanoza with 13 other offenses during his arrest:

  • Assault on a Peace Officer
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Prohibited Substance/Item in a Correctional Facility
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence with Intent to Impair
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Evading Arrest with a Vehicle
  • Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle
  • Violation of Bond/Protective Order
  • Resisting Arrest, Search, or Transport
  • Interference with Public Duties
  • Driving While Intoxicated
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Failure to Identify Fugitive from Justice

Additional charges may also come from APD, as it continues to investigate the armed robbery of the van, Kyle Police said.
