DEL VALLE, Texas (KXAN) — Those looking to get their dogs and cats spayed or neutered can do so for free this week at Circuit of the Americas.
The event from Austin Animal Center and Greater Good Charities will also offer vaccines, flea and tick prevention and microchips.
“Spaying and neutering offers several health benefits-reducing the risk of certain cancers and infections along with improving some behaviors by curbing aggression, marking, and excessive vocalization. Ultimately, spaying and neutering helps pets live longer, healthier lives while easing the burden on overcrowded shelters,” a news release said.
To participate, you can drop-off your pet and register each day beginning at 7:30 a.m. Registration runs until 10 a.m. or until the day is full.
The clinic is expected to provide at least 1,200 surgeries.
This is the fifth free clinic that’s been offered. At least one more is planned for 2025, Austin Animal Center said.
Spay and neuter procedures can cost hundreds of dollars and typically have months-long wait times to get an appointment. The clinic wants to remove those obstacles for people who might not otherwise consider the surgery for their pets.
