HOUSTON — A 2-year-old girl is dead after her adult brother accidentally backed his pickup truck into her while the family was unloading groceries Saturday night, according to the Houston Police Department.
This happened shortly before 10 p.m. at an apartment complex on Leonora Street, which is in a community off Bellfort Avenue east of Telephone Road.
Police said the family was unloading groceries when the 2-year-old girl ran into the apartment’s parking lot to play with a sibling. The girl’s adult brother did not know she was behind his truck when he backed up, hitting her.
The family stopped the truck and called 911 while attempting first aid on the girl.
She was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Police determined the crash was accidental and alcohol was not involved.
“Preliminary information that we have and the initial investigation all suggests that this was just a terrible incident,” said HPD Sgt. Thomas Fendia.
The adult brother is not facing charges.
