A Freeport officer rescues a kitten from a storm drain, earning praise and a new rank as “Corpurrrral” from the department.
FREEPORT, Texas — A Freeport police officer is being praised for going above and beyond to save a tiny life with whiskers.
On Sunday, Officer Gonzalez jumped into action after hearing faint cries coming from a storm drain. What he discovered was a kitten, stranded deep inside the pipe and unable to escape on its own, according to the Freeport Police Department.
Without hesitation, Officer Gonzalez crawled into the storm drain and came out moments later with the kitten safe in his arms.
The young cat, who is now safe and recovering, has been nicknamed “Michelangelo” by the department.
In a lighthearted social media post, the department celebrated Officer Gonzalez’s efforts, writing: “You’ve officially earned your stripes (Tabby of course) as Corpurrrral!”
