EMS attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
TENNESSEE, USA — A former football standout at Edna Karr High School in New Orleans died from gunshot wounds suffered Saturday night.
As our sister station ABC24 in Memphis reports, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee, just outside of Memphis, said deputies there found Corey Adams in a vehicle outside a residence in Cordova, Tennessee.
They attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other adults were also wounded in the shooting and arrived by private vehicle at the hospital. They are reported in non-critical condition.
“This is a post we never want to have to make and words can’t describe this type of pain. We are heartbroken and tormented to pieces Co4,” Edna Karr Football said in a social media post.
“Corey Adams was more than a football player! He was a friend, brother, son, student, and all around great young man. We never question God but this is one we just don’t understand. This wasn’t supposed to be the end of his story but we will #DoIt4Co“
Ole Miss Football shared the following statement:
“We are devastated to learn that Corey Adams, a freshman on the team, passed away last night in Cordova, Tennessee. While our program is trying to cope with this tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
“Out of respect for his family, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask the Ole Miss community to keep Corey in their thoughts and respect the privacy of everyone involved.”
Adams was a top player on the Edna Karr team that won a state championship last season. He was listed as a freshman on the football roster at the University of Mississippi.
Adams was among five people shot, the sheriff’s office said. The other four victims arrived in personal vehicles at area hospitals and are listed in non-critical condition.
