Man sentenced to 32 years for Fort Worth Stockyards murder

Kevin Aguilar received 32 years for a deadly Fort Worth shooting, which killed 18-year-old Joseph Padilla.

FORT WORTH, Texas — A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 32 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder in connection with a deadly 2024 shooting in the Fort Worth Stockyards, officials announced.

According to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, Kevin Aguilar admitted to firing an AR-style rifle into a crowd gathered in a parking lot during the early morning hours of Oct. 6. Four people were shot, including 18-year-old Joseph Padilla, who was celebrating his 18th birthday. 

Padilla was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as a student at Weatherford High School, Weatherford ISD confirmed.

Fort Worth Police responded to the shooting in the 100 block of NW 24th Street. Upon arrival, officers found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The surviving victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment, according to police.

The motive behind why Aguilar fired his weapon was not immediately known.
