Woman charged with murder after shooting near bus on Antoine Drive, police say

Authorities charge Asia C. Law, 19, with murder following a fatal shooting after an attack on a METRO bus driver in Houston.

HOUSTON — A woman accused of fatally shooting a man after he attacked a METRO bus driver earlier this week has been formally charged with murder, according to newly filed court documents.

Asia C. Law, 19, is charged with murder in connection with the deadly shooting that happened Tuesday morning near Antoine and Pinemont in northwest Houston, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Law was arrested on Wednesday.

According to Houston police, the shooting happened after a man attempted to board METRO Bus #2110, operating on Route 85/606. The driver reportedly refused to allow him on board due to a previous disturbance, prompting the man to force his way onto the bus and assault the driver.

“A male got on the bus and immediately started arguing with the driver and started hitting the driver,” HPD Capt. Ryan Watson said.

Police said Law, a female passenger, got off the bus and waited for the man outside. As he walked away from the scene, Law allegedly pulled out a gun and shot him multiple times, according to HPD investigators.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators believe Law ran from the scene after the shooting.

According to Houston police, this was not the only violent incident Law is accused of being involved in.

Law also is charged with aggravated assault in connection with an incident the day before the deadly shooting. Police said METRO police responded to a call at a bus stop on Tidwell near Homestead.

Witnesses told police someone at the bus stop shot at their vehicle at that location. The victim told police that she works as a cashier at a McDonald’s nearby and identified Law as the alleged shooter.

The victim said earlier in the day, Law came into the restaurant and asked for a cup of water. She added that Law became agitated because the cashier was taking too long.

According to court documents, after the victim served Law a cup of water, Law threw it back in her face, saying, “I’m going to spare your life today and you’re lucky you’re at work.” Law then left the restaurant.

After the victim finished her shift, she got a ride home. She and the driver spotted a friend of theirs sitting at a bus stop. She also spotted Law there, who then pulled a gun on them and opened fire as they sped off.

At least one of the shots hit the vehicle, police said.

According to court documents, Houston police said they received a call from someone who knew Law, saying that the suspect reached out claiming she was the one involved in the deadly Antoine shooting.

Law remains in custody as of the latest update.
