Officer, suspect hurt in shootout on Mykawa near Almeda Genoa, HPD says

When officers arrived, the suspect opened fire, hitting one of the sergeants. The officers returned fire, hitting the suspect.

HOUSTON — Two sergeants responding to a suspicious person call came under fire late Thursday night, according to the Houston Police Department.

HPD said the officers were called out to Mykawa Road near Almeda Genoa in reference to a suspicious person with a gun around 11:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, HPD said the suspect opened fire, hitting one of the sergeants. The officers returned fire, hitting the suspect.

The other sergeant gave first aid to both the suspect and the hit officer. HPD said both were taken to a hospital where they are expected to survive.

HPD did not release the suspect’s identity. They said the sergeant’s identity will be released later.

We don’t yet know what led up to the shooting.

Investigators were working to gather evidence at the scene.
