Harris County deputies arrested two suspects for rock-throwing at cars on Hardy Toll Road, linking it to a TikTok challenge.
HOUSTON — Harris County Precinct 4 deputies arrested two suspects for throwing rocks off a bridge at passing vehicles on the Hardy Toll Road.
They are now facing charges of criminal mischief. Authorities called their actions “reckless and potentially deadly.”
Authorities said that social media “challenges” may be a contributing factor to the problem. They believe a trending TikTok challenge motivated the crime.
This comes just after a recent trend in auto theft that police believe may have been tied to TikTok.
“This is not harmless fun,” Constable Mark Herman’s office said in a statement. “Social media ‘challenges’ that promote criminal behavior carry real-world consequences—both legal and life-threatening.”
Officials did not release the names or ages of the suspects but confirmed that an investigation is ongoing. No injuries were reported at the time of the incident.
Residents are urged to report suspicious behavior. For real-time crime alerts, arrests, and traffic incidents in your area, the public is encouraged to download the “C4 NOW” mobile app or follow the Constable’s office on Facebook.
