Hurricane Harbor making a splash with new water playground

ARLINGTON, Texas — Hurricane Harbor has officially opened Splash Island, a sprawling new attraction designed for families seeking summer fun.

The 58,000-square-foot addition includes 17 colorful water slides, more than 100 interactive water features, and a towering, multi-level treehouse play structure that reaches 50 feet high.

“This is our largest investment in our park’s 42-year history,” said park manager Heather Blair in a June interview with WFAA.

A massive splash pad and a Texas-sized tipping bucket carrying 1,000 gallons of water round out the main features, offering guests plenty of ways to stay cool under the summer sun. Splash Island is part of an overall refresh at Hurricane Harbor.

“Splash Island was designed with our families in mind,” said Blair. “It provides tons of fun for kids and parents alike, and a place for everyone to relax in the nearby cabanas while they savor our new food and beverage offerings.”

Guests will also notice upgraded amenities throughout the park, including new double-decker family cabanas furnished with beach-style seating, renovated restrooms, themed murals, and refreshed park décor inspired by the beaches of Galveston.

This season also brings a revamped dining experience with the debut of Smokehouse on the Water, a newly reimagined restaurant serving house-smoked brisket and pulled pork, along with sides like macaroni and cheese, chopped salad, and cornbread.
