John Derrick Taylor, 55, a Texas City ISD teacher and coach, was arrested at his home in Manvel, following an undercover investigation, Constable Alan Rosen said.
MANVEL, Texas — A Texas City High School teacher is in custody and charged with online solicitation of a minor, according to the Harris County Precinct One Constable’s Office.
John Derrick Taylor, 55, is a math teacher and power-lifting coach for boys and girls at the Texas City ISD school.
Taylor was arrested at his home in Manvel on Tuesday by detectives with Precinct One’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit.
Constable Alan Rosen said the teacher planned a sexual rendezvous with a person he thought was a 15-year-old girl, but it was actually an undercover detective.
According to an arrest warrant, Taylor planned to take the “girl” to a hotel for sex. Investigators said he also engaged in explicit online conversations and sent explicit photos on a social media app.
“It is especially unfortunate that a teacher would be involved in such alleged despicable acts,” Constable Rosen said in a post on social media. “No matter who they are or where they roam, predators are subject to being pursued by our detectives.”
Taylor was arrested after he’d been working with students at the high school field house, which is located southeast of Houston near Galveston Bay.
He has also worked in other districts in the region as well as in Fort Stockton, in West Texas.
Detectives ask anyone who has information about the defendant and his sexual interactions with minors to contact the Harris County Constable Precinct One Internet Crimes Against Children Unit at 713-222-4929.
If convicted, Taylor could get up to 10 years in prison.
Rosen’s office is a member of the Houston-Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
