Lake Buchanan conservation group provides flood assistance

LAKE BUCHANAN, Texas (KXAN) — As flood gates opened at Buchanan Dam for the first time in six years, locals gathered to watch as water from Lake Buchanan rushed into Inks Lake.

“There’s still a lot of water coming down the Colorado River. I think they’re doing everything they need to to keep the people safe up there,” said Nick Zackoff, president of the Lake Buchanan Conservation Corporation.

The group, which helps maintain Lake Buchanan as a recreation spot, is taking action to help people recovering from the floods.

“We were blessed and didn’t have any problems,” Zackoff said, but they plan to help out.

The group has partnered with Lowe’s and Ark of the Highland Lakes to provide gift cards and a discount at Lowe’s stores. The goal: to help people rebuild in Burnet and Llano counties.

The group is accepting donations to help pay for the cards through their website.

Additionally, they’re hosting a meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. to discuss further ways they can help. That meeting will be held at Hill Country Hall, 15675 E. State Hwy 29 at Buchanan Dam.
