Shiloh Wilson’s farewell procession moves through Texas

A procession brought Shiloh Wilson home to Harris County after floods claimed his family’s lives during a rodeo trip.

HOUSTON — A 12-year-old boy who died with his parents in the July 4 floods was escorted home to Harris County on Saturday.

Shiloh Wilson and his parents, Jeff and Amber, were in Kerrville for a rodeo when catastrophic flooding swept through their campsite at HTR RV Park, according to a GoFundMe page set up by the family.

Shiloh, described as a “young, spirited competitor,” was participating in the rodeo.

Family members confirmed on Friday, July 11, that Shiloh’s body had been found, according to KHOU 11’s Amanda Henderson. His parents, Jeff and Amber, were located earlier in the week and returned to Houston.

Plans were soon made to bring Shiloh home so that he could be reunited with his mom and dad.

The official procession began in Kerrville at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The procession crossed into Waller, then continued down US-290, across SH-99, and onto US-59 in New Caney.

Members of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office joined the multi-agency procession, which was coordinated by the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office.

A longtime friend of the Wilson Family spoke to KHOU 11’s Jason Miles at the funeral home.

“I just know that Jeff, Amber, and Shiloh are looking at all this right now, probably got big, giant smiles on their faces and it just breaks my heart that you just don’t have a chance to say goodbye,” Tom Schwager said.

Another family friend, David Bender, said he was overwhelmed by the support.

“The outpouring is great, I’m glad to see the turnout, to see the love for him, love for the family,” Bender said.

Jordan Parker spoke about her dear friend Amber.

“It’s devastating. Amber was the sweetest person I’ve ever met. Shiloh was, he was something they called him ‘Stringray,'” Parker said.

Jeff Wilson was a teacher in the Humble ISD, where the family made their home.

The GoFundMe campaign notes that donations are helping support both sides of the family as they coordinate funeral arrangements and try to bring comfort to one another. Here’s how to help.
