AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin FC has struggled offensively in 2025. That likely won’t get easier for the Verde and Black, as their top goal scorer in Brandon Vázquez is out for the season with a torn ACL, per a press release from the team.
In all competitions this year, Vázquez led Austin FC with nine goals. No other player has more than three.
In the U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal match Tuesday at San Jose, Vázquez suffered the injury in the second half that will cost him the rest of 2025.
In the release, Austin FC Sporting Director Rodolfo Borrell said: “All of us at Austin FC are devastated to learn of this injury to Brandon, who has proven to be a crucial player for us on the pitch since he arrived. We will be with him every step of the way throughout the rehabilitation process.”
Austin will host the 2025 MLS All-Star Game on July 23. Vázquez was one of two Verde and Black standouts to make the roster. Because of the injury, the star forward will no longer be participating.
Austin acquired Vázquez in January with a club-record transfer with CF Monterrey of Liga MX. Austin FC is back in action Saturday, hosting a match against the New England Revolution at Q2 Stadium.
