STAFFORD, Texas — A 30-year-old man was fatally shot by Stafford police on Sunday afternoon after he allegedly robbed a convenience store, and then threatened officers.
The incident began at around 3:15 p.m. on July 6, when Stafford Police Officers were alerted to the 300 block of Avenue E for reports of “a male suspect reported to be wielding a large knife.” A second caller advised officers of the suspect’s location, reporting that he was walking along Avenue E and crossing FM 1092.
Shortly after, police received a third 911 call from the 7-Eleven convenience store at 2919 North Main Street. The call reported an aggravated robbery involving a suspect matching the same description. According to the department’s statement, the 911 caller described being robbed “by a Black male wearing a black hoodie, black sweatpants, and a white shirt.”
Officers located the suspect near the intersection of Avenue E and Shady Brook Drive. When police made contact, the suspect fled on foot, prompting a chase through the area.
The situation escalated when “the suspect armed with a large kitchen knife and a brick began charging at officers,” according to the SPD statement. Officers first tried to tase the suspect, but the device “proved ineffective.” A second officer then shot him, striking the suspect.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have identified him as a 30-year-old, Miftau Oladipo.
“The Stafford Police Department is actively investigating this incident in conjunction with the Texas Rangers, the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office, and the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office,” the department stated.
