AUSTIN (KXAN) — As Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football staff continue to fill out their recruiting class for next year, they have a clear focus on the defensive side of the ball.
The Class of 2026 became bolstered with the Thursday commitment of Kosi Okpala, an EDGE rusher from Houston.
The Mayde Creek standout also went on visits to Penn State, Houston, Miami and Baylor before choosing the Longhorns. With Okpala Austin bound, six of the Longhorns’ eight top recruits in the Class of 2026 are defensive players, according to 247 Sports.
Okpala is rated as a four-star prospect according to consensus across recruiting websites. He is listed at 6’2, 230 pounds.
Texas’ 2026 class is anchored by quarterback Dia Bell, a five-star recruit from Florida. Okpala is the 16th commitment in the class for the Longhorns.
