Big Klass CDL School in Dallas has had its semi-truck stolen — twice.
DALLAS — The road to redemption starts behind the wheel at Big Klass CDL School in southern Dallas.
“I have a daughter,” student Christopher Thomas said about his reasoning behind obtaining a CDL. “I got laid off at a previous job. I realized that it was something I wanted to try that was new.”
It’s a new beginning for many, such as Thomas and his classmate, Christina Robinson.
“They were able to work with me in my financial situation and allow me to have this opportunity,” Robinson said.
Kyree and Carolina McClish run the school. Some of their students are veterans, those facing homelessness or those formerly incarcerated.
Their pathway hit a roadblock on May 31. The school’s cameras show someone stealing a semi-truck off their lot.
“I immediately called 911 and nobody responded until the next day,” Kyree McClish said.
Dallas Police confirmed the next-day response and found the vehicle a couple of weeks later. Then, on June 28, thieves smashed the school’s gate and stole the same vehicle again.
“I was like, God, please don’t tell me this is gone again,” Kyree McClish said. “How did this happen again?” asked Kyree McClish.
He said he called the police for the second theft, too.
“They never even came out,” Kyree McClish said. “They still haven’t come out.”
According to DPD policy, burglary of a business is a lower priority call, so response times can be longer. DPD said Mesquite police found the vehicle Tuesday night. There is no word on any arrests at this time.
“It’s very frustrating, especially when you are here as a small business trying to help the community to better lives,” Carolina McClish said.
While the school waits to get the truck back, it’s not letting anything detour from its goals.
“Keep striving forward because guess what, the students are still going to come,” Robinson said.
