51-year-old Kip Thompson lost control of his Ford Explorer late Friday and landed in the bayou, the Houston Police Department said.
HOUSTON — The Houston Police Department released the identity of the driver who plunged into Brays Bayou on Friday, June 27, near the Third Ward.
The crash happened around 11 p.m. on Cullen Boulevard near South MacGregor Way, east of Highway 288.
On Monday, HPD said the body of 51-year-old Kip Thompson was still in his Ford Explorer when it was pulled from the water.
Investigators said Thompson was driving northbound on Cullen near South MacGregor Way when he lost control. He cashed into a dead-end wall and plunged into the bayou.
The HPD Dive Team and the Houston Fire Department took part in the search.
Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one else was in the SUV, and no other vehicles were involved, according to HPD.
