A 5-year-old girl was found dead in a West Houston apartment pool, sparking a homicide investigation.
HOUSTON — A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded overnight at a West Houston apartment complex, where a 5-year-old girl was found dead in the community pool.
It happened just after midnight early Friday at the Hawthorn Terrace Apartments off Hayes Road, according to the Houston Police Department.
Police say a woman who lives at the complex went for a late-night swim and discovered the child in the pool. She immediately tried to help and render aid, but was unable to revive the girl.
“We don’t know how long she was in the water at this time,” said Lt. A. Khan with HPD. “There are cameras and stuff, so the homicide division will be doing the investigation on this. Thoughts and prayers for the family of the child.”
Investigators say the child lived in an apartment located behind the pool, but it’s still unclear how she ended up in the water.
