5 dead after multi-vehicle crash in Burnet County

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Five people died Friday following a multi-vehicle crash in Burnet County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS said the crash occurred around 6 p.m. on U.S. 281 near Park Road 4.

A preliminary investigation indicated a pickup truck pulling a livestock trailer veered into the opposite lane of travel and hit a vehicle head-on before continuing in an arc and hitting an SUV traveling behind the first vehicle.

The SUV overturned and caught fire, according to DPS, and all five occupants died at the scene. DPS identified the occupants of the SUV as Thalia Salinas, Ruby Cruz, Brianna Valadez, Desiree Cervantez and Jacqueline Velazco.

According to DPS, the drivers and passengers of the other vehicles had non-life-threatening injuries.

DPS said the investigation into the crash remained active.
