2025 MLB Draft: 4 Longhorns selected on 2nd day

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Four more Longhorns heard their names called at the 2025 MLB First-Year Player Draft on Monday in Atlanta.

Left-handed pitcher Jared Spencer and shortstop Jalin Flores were selected in the 11th round, and catcher Rylan Galvan was picked in the 13th round. Right-handed reliever Grayson Saunier went in the 17th round of the 20-round draft.

The Blue Jays grabbed Spencer with the No. 322 pick on the second day of the draft. He was ranked as the No. 113 prospect ahead of the draft, but obviously, things changed with MLB clubs after he needed shoulder surgery at the end of April, ending his senior year early.

The hard-throwing southpaw transferred before the season from Indiana State, and he was every bit of a Friday night starting pitcher for head coach Jim Schlossnagle before he went down with the injury. He started 10 games with 66 strikeouts and 23 walks with a 3.27 ERA in 52.1 innings.

The Cardinals plucked Flores eight slots after Spencer at No. 330. Flores had a rough season at the plate in 2025 when compared to 2024, losing 256 percentage points from his OPS year-over-year. Flores notched an OPS of .808 in 2025 after his tremendous 2024 year of 1.064. He has a year of college eligibility remaining if he chooses not to sign.

Galvan is headed to the south side of Chicago after the White Sox picked him at No. 376. He ended 2025 as the team leader with 15 home runs and a 1.065 OPS. He was the only Longhorn to record an OPS over 1.000 this season. Defensively, he made just four errors in 500 total chances. He has a year of eligibility remaining, but Schlossnagle recruited perhaps the best player available in the transfer portal, Notre Dame’s Carson Tinney, to take over behind the dish.

Houston selected Saunier at pick No. 516. The transfer from Ole Miss appeared in 12 games with a 3.86 ERA in 2025. He has a year of eligibility remaining.
