HOUSTON — Two men were rushed to Houston hospitals after being shot during a pool party at an apartment complex where a lot of University of Houston students live, according to police.
A man in his 20s was shot multiple times in the torso and rushed to the hospital in critical condition. A man in his 30s was shot in the knee and is expected to be OK.
Officers arrived to find a chaotic scene and an unruly crowd, so they called for backup, and several units rushed to the scene, according to the Houston Police Department.
“We had to call in quite a few officers to get there to calm everything down because there was numerous folks,” HPD Lt. R. Willkens said.
The double shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Altitude apartments on MLK Boulevard near Highway 90 in Houston’s Third Ward.
“The pool area is a catastrophe, there’s shell casings, a lot of blood,” Willkens said.
He said several people were detained for questioning, including a man who was found in a vehicle with a weapon near the scene. Willkens didn’t know yet if any of the people questioned were involved in the shooting.
The video showed people yelling at officers and one young man being handcuffed, but we don’t know yet if anyone has been arrested or charged.
