$1M of stolen merchandise, $636K seized in organized retail theft arrests

Police seized $636,000 and recovered an estimated $1 million in stolen merchandise, officials said.

DENTON COUNTY, Texas — Two North Texans have been arrested and charged in an organized retail theft bust involving multiple police departments and law enforcement agencies, according to Texas DPS. 

Texas DPS said Oak Point residents Neeraj Singh Kanyal, 36, and Ankita Kanyal, 31, were arrested and booked into Denton County Jail for engaging in organized criminal activity, theft of property and interfering with public duties. 

Their arrests came as the result of a collaborative investigation targeted organized retail theft in Denton County, DPS said in a release. Police seized $636,000 and recovered an estimated $1 million in stolen merchandise. 

Texas DPS worked with the Allen Police Department (PD), the Irving PD, the Oak Point PD, the Plano PD, the Denton County Sheriff’s Office and retailers for the operation.
