19-year-old Red Oak girl killed in car crash on her way home from college

According to the Louisiana State Police, Courtney Hodge was killed Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 190.

OPELOUSAS, La. — A North Texas mother is in mourning after her 19-year-old daughter was killed Friday in a car crash on her way home from Louisiana State University.

According to Sherqueena Myles Jackson, her daughter, Courtney Hodge, had just finished her freshman year at LSU after graduating from Red Oak High School in 2025. But on her way home, Louisiana State Police say Hodge was killed in a two-vehicle crash along Louisiana Highway 190 in Opelousas, La.

Officers began investigating the crash just after 3 p.m., officials say. Investigators found that a semi-truck was traveling westbound on the highway just ahead of the 2025 Kia K4. As the truck began to slow approaching a crossover, police say the Kia K4 failed to slow down, colliding into the back of the truck.

According to the Louisiana State Police, Hodge wasn’t properly restrained at the time of the crash. She died at the scene after suffering fatal injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, police said.

Red Oak ISD issued a statement Saturday offering prayers to the family of Hodge. Her mother will soon be a Red Oak ISD employee, as she is the incoming principal of Schupmann Elementary.
