Police said a driver failed to give right-of-way at a stop sign before the crash.

HOUSTON — One person is dead and several are hurt after a crash on Houston’s south side Sunday night, police say.

The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Cork Drive and Claygate Drive, which is in a community off Scott Street north of Almeda Genoa Road.

Houston police said a Nissan traveling south on Claygate failed to give right-of-way at a stop sign and crashed into a Jeep that was headed west on Cork.

There were five people in the Nissan, including three young kids aged 3 to 5 years old. A woman in the backseat of the Nissan was pronounced dead at a hospital. The remaining people in the Nissan were taken to a hospital and are expected to survive.

The driver of the Jeep was also taken to a hospital and is expected to be OK.

Police said the driver of the Nissan may face charges for not giving the right of way before the crash. The Jeep driver is not expected to face charges.
